In this episode of The Prophets, Dr Hirini Kaa recounts the life of Te Ua Haumēne, exploring the experiences that led to his founding of the Hauhau faith, also known as Pai Mārire. Kaa and experts such as Dr Ranginui Walker (Whakatōhea) describe the political landscape in the 1800s, as well as key events that forged the current holdings of Pai Mārire. Kaa looks to reconcile intent with outcome as he gives light to the complex and tumultuous path of the Hauhau faith, from Taranaki to Tūrangawaewae. The seven-part series was directed by Tainui Stephens for Maori Television.
