Viewed in this context the 1983 Monty Python movie "The Meaning of Life" was frighteningly close to reality.

Mother-to-be: "What do I do, doctor?"
Dr Spenser: Nothing, dear. You're not qualified.(!)

It is so sad to me that birth has changed so little since 1978. It is still predominantly in hospitals and women are are being drugged even more than they were then. Perhaps the ironic difference is that more women now fell "empowered" to have the birth of their babies this way.
I would love to buy this film, as I am planning to teach a class on birth in women's studies.
