Fashion designer Dame Trelise Cooper travels to Turkey 25 years after her last visit in this Intrepid Journey. Despite the drag of baggage restrictions, Cooper enjoys her first ever backpacking journey where she coats herself in mud, climbs up a mountain in sparkly shoes and politely brushes off compliments from male shopkeepers. Cooper speaks with local women to understand their lives in a majority Muslim country, from the hard-working old women in small villages to the younger generations. She finishes her trip with a magical but scary view of towering "fairy chimneys", from a hot air balloon.
Ooh, very Phantom of the Opera! This is so beautiful. It would look amazing with a catwalk down the middle.– Trelise Cooper, beneath Topkapi Palace in Istanbul
