Richard Riddiford's first movie explores a woman's restless homecoming from her OE. Monica (Judy McIntosh, from Ngāti) returns from Europe to sculptor Nick (actor/nature presenter Peter Hayden), who has stayed behind in Waiuku. Monica goads him into a road trip north, seeking connection to him and home. In this excerpt they meet Riki (Rawiri Paratene), a charismatic performance poet who has left the city to find his Ngāpuhi roots. Monica is intrigued by Riki's bond to his people and the land, which widens a rift between her and Nick. The excerpt also contains bathtub sax and an impromptu wedding.
