Skin Deep

The tight-knit community of Carlton is all abuzz with the arrival of Sandra (Deryn Cooper), a massage therapist from the city who is setting up shop in their — usually — very quiet town. Attitudes vary greatly between the worried wives, their overly-excited husbands, and the hopeful businessmen looking to boost the local economy. Made in 1978, Skin Deep was funded by the freshly established NZ Film Commission, marking its first major investment. Director Geoff Steven went on to direct Strata, before becoming an executive at both TV3 and TVNZ.
