Clara (Lola McLeod-Riera) and Tesha (Elia Correa) are sheltering as bombs fall around them. Their temporary place of safety in a war zone is interrupted by a film crew led by reporter Kendrick (played by the film's writer/director Flynn Biara Allan). Kendrick's sole aim is to get a decent interview from the traumatised Clara. Tuned Out won Best Overall Film at the 2023 New Zealand Youth Film Festival. Its themes of protracted war, compassion fatigue, and the role and responsibilities of the media are starkly examined. Jack England created the affecting soundtrack.
