From the Album Lament for the Numb (1993)

This first single from 1993’s Lament of the Numb sees Dave Dobbyn critiquing "the French and the cavalry", and their destructive treatment of the Pacific. As Dobbyn recalls, the French were testing nukes and the US was transporting nasty stuff to Johnston Atoll that year. "It was déjà vu for a lot of people", he says. Despite the anti-nuclear message, this music video by veteran photographer and music director Kerry Brown avoids overt politics. Instead, Dobbyn is in performance mode for a live audience and in close-up, as Brown brings an energetic approach and edit, a range of filmmaking techniques and splashes of colour.
