About
In this one-off series that first played as part of the arts show Kaleidoscope, the women artists of Aotearoa are examined and celebrated. Helmed by director/reporter Katherine Findlay, the six episodes range from artist profiles (Jacqueline Fahey and Emily Karaka), to wider-ranging discussions, where a variety of artists and thinkers discuss the same idea. Made in 1984, the series reflects the themes that concerned the second-wave feminism of the era — such as male cultural bias, sexual liberation and the politics of domesticity and motherhood. It is jam-packed with interviews and artworks, with frequent contributions from artists like Juliet Batten, Carole Shepheard and Robyn Kahukiwa. The full episode guide is here.
