In the final episode of the first series of Some of My Best Friends Are, presenter Pio Terei asks a very important question: "Are we becoming a nation of solo mothers, or a country of absent fathers?" Terei talks to a number of women who are raising their children, mostly alone, but there are some common themes — absolute adoration for their children regardless of the father's presence, and the support they receive from their own parents. Some mothers highlight the struggles of juggling their work life with illnesses, lack of financial means and part-time or full-time work.
