Bert and Maisy - Christmas (She's Funny at the Moment, They Both Are)

Television (Full Length Episode) – 1989

Elderly couple Bert and Maisy are creatures of comfort, but Christmas day is going to look very different this year, what with moving out of their large family home, and into Maisy's sisters. This episode unpacks the struggles and nuances of the common Kiwi Christmas complete with dinner table arguments and whispered gossip. Robert Lord adapted his stage play for television, and Alice Fraser (Close to Home) and Grant Tilly reprised their roles as Bert and Maisy. Gliding On's Michael Haigh and Katy Beasley also feature. Articles described the show as exploring the precarious dignity of old age in New Zealand.

I'm not going to cook . . . you can have baked beans on toast for all I care.
– Maisy (Alice Fraser) talks about the Christmas arrangements
