In 1992 Riwia Brown (Once Were Warriors) premiered her play Ngā Wahine at Wellington's Taki Rua Theatre. Brown went on to adapt her script for television, as well as taking the director's credit. In 1998 the one hour drama screened on TV One. A chance meeting between newly pregnant student Daina (Nancy Brunning) and stylish lawyer Moana (Stickmen's Simone Kessell) sees their lives intertwining. While Daina struggles to accept her pregnancy and the high hopes of her whānau, the outwardly successful Moana yearns to be a mother. Kirk Torrance (Outrageous Fortune) plays Moana's high-flying husband.
