Philip Dadson: Sonics from Scratch

Film (Full Length) – 2015

A wonderful example of how to make a filmic portrait, Philip Dadson: Sonics from Scratch is a beautiful, intriguing, and endearing watch.
– Ellena Zellhuber, reviewing the film on website One Room with a View, 3 September 2015
I think what interests me most probably about building stuff is the discovery of new principles and the discovery of materials that suddenly yield something, or finding a way to combine different functions within the same instrument.
– Phil Dadson, on his love for DIY instruments
My initial attraction to video was the visceral physical, almost sculptural quality of it. Completely in contrast to film, which is a projection of light, video is an emission of light. It's lines on a screen and it's the physical formation of image through the lines.
