Traditional and contemporary Pasifika style and culture are on full display in this hybrid fashion and music event. The Auckland Town Hall hums with island vibes as co-host (and artistic director) Stan Wolfgramm and actor Miriama Smith introduce different categories from wearable art through to urban streetwear. Designers mix up traditional materials like tapa cloth and piupiu with bursts of tropical colour and eye-catching headpieces. Models smile and strut, backed by gospel, smooth pop and traditional waiata. Special guests include Nesian Mystic and the velvet-voiced Lapi Mariner, who serenades the Pasifika Bride section.
So I understand this is a part of the traditionally inspired section?... Do you want to just quickly turn around for us, and show us the whole kit? Yeah baby! Every shopper's dream, baby.– Presenter Miriama Smith compliments a traditionally Inspired outfit
