The Unauthorised History of New Zealand - Sex (excerpts)

Television (Excerpts) – 2005

Jeremy Wells brings Animal Planet-esque authority to this alternative vision of Kiwi history. The show was made by many of the team behind the equally edgy Eating Media Lunch. Wells and director Paul Casserly plumb the archives as a starting point to explore intriguing pastimes of Kiwis in the colonial age. The two excerpts from this second episode see Wells examining the history of sex in Aotearoa, with tongue possibly planted in cheek (and other places). En route he explores pole-dancing in Russell, the "hellhole of the Pacific", randy Hutt Valley teens "getting laid" in the 1950s, and the world of Auckland madam Flora MacKenzie.

We don’t like to admit it but the bicultural roots of this country were laid by... bicultural roots.
