A Persistent Vision

2013 26m Short film
  • Documentary

The transition from physical film stock to digital has been one of the biggest technological advances filmmaking has contended with — including New Zealand's small but mighty screen industry. In this short documentary from local screen veteran Costa Botes — commissioned by Park Road Post to mark the closure of their film laboratory in 2013 — directors, cinematographers and lab technicians discuss the bygone era of capturing footage on finite film stock. The history of the National Film Unit is also explored, with charming archival footage. Interviewees include directors Peter Jackson, Gaylene Preston and Taika Waititi.
