Tokoroa may be best known for its huge forests producing timber, pulp and paper, but in this episode of documentary series Heartland, presenter Maggie Barry discovers lesser-known facts about the South Waikato town. With Tokoroa's A&P show looming, Barry (Maggie's Garden Show and former MP) meets keen axeman Dave Lamberton Jnr, the son of a former wood chopping champion. Librarian Roddy Pittams, who fears chainsaws, talks about the history and cultural mix of Tokoroa, while forestry worker Rick Te Whiu trains for the chopping events and Francis Van Den Einden and pet calf Mary hope for a ribbon.
