This is a cleverly choreographed one-shot video for a beloved song — although some have questioned whether the moving house/moving on imagery actually suits the lyrics. Dave Dobbyn's jersey and his on-screen girlfriend's outfit firmly date stamp events to the 1980s, but the song has outlasted the knitwear. Although it only just nudged into the Kiwi top 20 on release, APRA members later voted it the third-best New Zealand song of the 20th century. In 2006 an online survey voted it the best Kiwi song yet. 'Loyal' was later used by Team NZ as the campaign song for its 2002 defence of the America’s Cup.
