It's the mid 1990s and the South Canterbury town of Waimate is concerned about its dwindling relevance. Boosting its profile with a Heartland episode, presenter Annie Whittle learns what the rural township has to offer, and in some cases, what it's not offering (eligible bachelors being high on the list). Whittle visits the major attractions, such as the historic Catholic church and Savoy Tearooms, and in true Heartland style, interviews subsets of the community with vastly different views. Perhaps most fascinating is the contrast between the men's only Buffalo Lodge Club, and lesbian punk duo Mouse and Meshell.
