Bruised after being shot in Bogatá as part of a bulletproof jacket test, Corkery readies herself for a journey into rural Colombia, where the kidnapping rates are high and the journalist-napping rates even higher. Despite being agoraphobic, she wards off piranha in the Amazon and deadly chicken-eating spiders in Zona Cafetera, hikes an almost vertical mountain and sheds a tear at a bullfighting ring.
