What We Do in the Shadows

Actor/director Taika Waititi teamed up with his Eagle vs Shark star Jemaine Clement for this mockumentary about life in a flat of vampires. Cameras follow as the vamps struggle to get into Wellington pubs, fight over chores and squabble with werewolves. A roster of Kiwi talent (including lazy vampire Jonathan and Jackie van Beek) feature. After winning fangtastic reviews at America's Sundance and South by Southwest festivals, Shadows won a run of global sales and four Moa awards, including Best Self-Funded Feature. It also spawned two TV shows and a live show.

A very funny Kiwi take on vampire lore and its application to the modern world ... anyone intending to hop on this particular subgenre bandwagon has a hard act to follow.
– Hollywood Reporter reviewer John DeFore, after seeing the film at the Sundance Film Festival, 20 January 2014
