Feel-good comedy Sione's Wedding follows four 30-something guys who must find a girlfriend before their best friend's wedding — or be left out in the cold. Through their bumbling efforts to get the girls, the movie brought to life the colour and humour of the Samoan community in Auckland, the world's largest Polynesian city. A breakthrough Pasifika-Kiwi film, Sione's Wedding broke box office records when it opened in Kiwi cinemas in March 2006. Oscar Kightley (who plays the romantically inept Albert) wrote the script with James Griffin. Makerita Urale writes about Sione's Wedding here.
I was surprised by the degree to which the film just fell into people's hearts. Even years later, I'm meeting people who say they go home every night and watch it after work to cheer themselves up.– Oscar Kightley, in a 13 January 2011 interview with Bridget Jones
